Excessive Use of Stimulants

Caffeine is the most consumed stimulant. However, many are unaware of the proper daily dosage per person.   

Although caffeine has many benefits, its consumption in high quantities can lead to unwanted side effects such as heart arrhythmia and seizures. Therefore, you must not exceed 400mg daily. 

Stimulants

Caffeine is one of the stimulant drugs which can be found naturally in coffee and tea. Caffeine can also be added to some foods, medications and other beverages.  Most of us consume it daily and the human body can absorb it within 30 to 45 minutes and its effects can last up to 6 hours. 

Stimulants can impact the mood, the colon and stomach activities and brain blood vessels. It also known that caffeine can raise blood pressure and stimulates the production of insulin that lowers blood sugar levels which can increase the feeling of hunger. 

Stimulants Facts

Stimulants may have some benefits, but these benefits are a few compared to the harms. Some benefits include

  • Aiding in weight loss.
  • Increasing alertness.
  • Improving physical performance.
  • Beneficial to the colon and liver. 
  • Improve memory.

Harms of Stimulants

Although caffeine has some benefits, its consumption in high amounts can cause some side effects including:

  • Arrhythmia and seizures. 
  • Hormonal imbalance. 
  • Dizziness. 
  • Increased feeling of thirst. 
  • Insomnia.  
  • Headaches.

Prevention

Consuming less than 400mg of caffeine daily is the recommended dosage per person. This dosage equals the consumption of 4 cups of coffee or 10 cups of carbonated beverages. It is important to note that caffeine is not safe for children, teenagers, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people consuming certain medications.
