Smoking negatively impacts the health of humans in different ways and forms. This is due to the fact that its ingredients harm all systems in the body and increase the chance of developing cancer and other diseases which seem unrelated to smoking directly.

What is Smoking?

Smoking is the process of burning a certain material, usually tobacco, which is later inhaled. Smokers believe that smoking reliefs them and improves their mood. However, in reality smoking negatively impacts the nervous system which leads to a visible malfunction that causes headaches, dizziness, memory weakness which then causes the smoker to be anxious. The harms of smoking is not only limited to cigarettes but also includes e-cigarettes and hookas.

  • Smoking kills 7 million people around the world, 6 million of them are smokers while 890,000 are non-smokers who were exposed to the smoke.
  • Smoking increases the chance of developing Type-2 Diabetes by 30-40%.
More than 1 billion people around the world are smokers. In 2014, 20% of the world population were smokers. Moreover, 800 million of those smokers were men. 80% of smokers which numbers are estimated to be 1 billion people live in low and medium income countries. Studies have estimated that smoking in Gulf countries are represented by 40% of men, 10% of women and 15% youth and children.

Treatment

Many treatment methods are available to help smokers quit. This includes, quitting without external support, specialized treatment, behavior therapy, Nicotine replacements and smokers can mix more than one treatments if they wish.
